چکیده
Associations between sensory features of different natures are defined as crossmodal correspondences. In the context size perception, low pitch sound frequencies often associated with larger objects and high smaller objects. Here we investigate such correspondences in sighted visually-impaired children. Experiment 1, after listening to sounds (250–5000 Hz pure tones), children aged 6–11 years were asked draw a circle "as big was". 2, 6–14 who blind or had vision performed similar task. accordance previous research, observed that drawn depends on participants’ age confirm presence pitch-size associations children, influenced by residual vision, suggesting an anchoring perception level vision. These results reveal novel dynamics underlying advancing visual loss emergence compensatory mechanisms childhood.

متن کاملFind the Missing Element! Haptic Identification of Incomplete Pictures by Sighted and Visually Impaired Children
This study investigates the haptic identification of incomplete raised-line drawings (i.e., pictures with a missing element) by sighted and early visually impaired children aged 9-10 years. Incomplete pictures have already been used in the visual modality to assess perceptual reasoning in children, but not yet under the haptic modality. We found that success at identifying incomplete raised-lin...
متن کاملEducational Sound Symbols for the Visually Impaired
Acoustic-based computer interactivity offers great potential [1], particularly with blind and visually impaired users [2]. At Indiana University’s School of Informatics at IUPUI, we have developed an innovative educational approach relying on “audemes,” short, nonverbal sound symbols made up of 2-5 individual sounds lasting 3-7 seconds like expanded “earcons”[3] to encode and prompt memory. To ...
